Brian Tracy says that it takes five to seven years to achieve mastery in your field. “There are no shortcuts that work in the long term,” he cautions. You must commit to excellence and you need to regularly feed your mind with positive materials.

In my previous post, Internet Marketing Experts Made, Not Born, I highlighted a similar perspective put forward by the late Earl Nightingale. Earl said that if you spend an hour a day studying in your chosen field, you will become an expert in five years.

It is clear that these two highly influential thought leaders believe that the key to personal and business success is commitment: more specifically, a commitment to personal development, educational edification, and mastery of one’s field of endeavour.

Finally, somebody is thinking about Affiliate Marketers; about what we need from affiliate companies to help us be more successful at selling their products. If they want to maximize their affiliate power, they have to get inside the affiliate mind!

Linc Wonham, associate editor with Website Magazine, has an article in the February edition of the publication titled, Inside the Affiliate Mind. In this article, Wonham highlights the fact that companies typically train, support and reward their paid employees, but often overlook giving the same consideration to their affiliates.

Worse yet, some of these affiliate companies point the finger at affiliate marketers when the company’s sales are down! Wonham notes that while there are some companies that do look after their affiliates, there are those that leave a lot to be desired when it comes to affiliate relations.

“The most successful online business owners learn how to get inside the minds of their often misunderstood (affiliate) partners,” says Wonham. There have been many influential books written over the years on motivation and achievement. One that has had a lasting effect on me and my home business success is Earl Nightingale’s Greatest Discovery (PMA Book Series), written by the “Dean of Personal Development” himself, Earl Nightingale.

This book, highlighting “six words that changed the author’s life”, shows readers exactly how to apply the same six words to ensure their personal and business success.

The book was published in 1987 and I received a copy from my mother who had borrowed it from our local library. She knew I was interested in books on personal achievement and she had been a fan of Earl Nightingale, who had developed quite a following as a popular radio broadcaster, so she was confident that I would find great value and inspiration in the book.

Well, Mom was absolutely correct. I read the book several times before reluctantly returning it to her, and then I set about searching for a source to buy my own copy. Once I found the source, ordered the book and received it, I quickly read it through a few more times. Setting goals and targets is one of the most empowering practices an aspiring marketer can commit to. Another valuable characteristic is the habit of continually analyzing, evaluating and modifying the various aspects of a business. Change is good for your home business, but look before you leap.

It should be emphasized that thorough analysis and evaluation needs to be done before moving into the modification stage. Over the years, I have witnessed far too many home business enthusiasts jumping from one promising program to another or from one product or service to another before giving the first one its proper due.

These unfortunate marketers seem to be trapped on the treadmill of continuous “modification” and never seem to arrive at anything stable and financially productive. They keep switching programs before they have sufficiently developed their own marketing abilities to make the first one work. …
