My Search Engine Traffic Stats Are Down

I like to check my website analytics reports everyday and one thing I’ve noticed over the past month is that my search engine traffic statistics have gone down in comparison to the referral traffic for this website.
The search engine stats used to run about equal with the referral traffic stats, but lately, the percentage for referral traffic has been higher; which suggests that the traffic coming from the search engines is lower.
On the surface, it might simply appear that I need to do more keyword marketing and article marketing. However, for more than a month now, I have been increasing my article submissions and blog posts, so I am going to point the finger at Google’s algorithm changes for this drop in search traffic. …
One of the things to consider is the increased emphasis the search engines are placing on quality content. I believe that if a marketer enhances the quality of the content on and off their website and also markets their off-site content with focused links back to individual web pages on their site, they will see improved results.
Despite the percentage drop in my search engine traffic stats, I’m not sweating it because shifts like these are going to keep happening as the search engines keep tweaking things to improve the user search experience.
What am I going to do about it? Well, what CAN an Internet Marketer do about it? I am going to keep focusing on the basics, what else?
In particular, I will continue in the two areas already mentioned:
- Article Marketing
Keyword marketing is one of the foundational elements of Internet Marketing and I will continue to promote my home business opportunities and resources with keyword blog posts, basic keyword articles in the article directories as well as keyword articles that point back to specific blog posts on this website.
These methods of online marketing will produce both direct referral traffic and, hopefully, additional search traffic. It’s hard to say how much the search engine stats will improve, but the effort is never wasted because article marketing still generates exposure and helps to build one’s brand.
Bottom line: Even though my search engine traffic stats are down right now, I am optimistic because first, if you can measure something, you can find a way to improve it; and second, despite the percentage shift, my overall stats are improving, so I know I’m on the right track!
