Consider These Three Keys to Success in Business
The wonderful thing about words and concepts is that they can be arranged in a variety of ways to express a point. Today, I am going to ask you to consider three keys to success in business, although they can be applied to all aspects of life.
The keys are Clarity, Competence and Concentration. I happened upon this particular arrangement of concepts while reading some inspirational material from business leader and success coach, Brian Tracy.
Brian encourages people to live without limits and to work at breaking the success barrier in their lives. His training materials guide them towards these personal development goals and provides them with step-by-step instructions on exactly how to do it. I am a fan of Brian’s work! …
Please understand that the outline I present here is my interpretation of Brian’s message and it may not be expressed exactly as Brian had originally intended.
Clarity is the first of the three keys to success in business that I will highlight.
Brian talks about being very, very clear about your goals. He is an avid promoter of writing them down, carefully prioritizing the steps necessary to achieve them, and doing something every day to move you in the direction of your goals. He notes that the more progress you make, the more self-confidence you develop in your ability to achieve your goals.
Competence is the next key on the list.
Brian talks about truly focusing on developing your skills in the key result areas of your business so that you become highly competent in those areas.
In his various training programs, he highlights the “80/20 rule” and encourages you to work at becoming outstanding in the 20 per cent of tasks that account for 80 per cent of the results you get. He advocates continuous learning and a daily commitment to activities designed to improve your level of competence in those key task areas.
Concentration is the third key.
Brian explains that concentration is all about self-discipline; the ability to make yourself focus exclusively on your most important task until it has been completed. For maximum effect, you must have clarity of what you want from your business and where you are headed with it, and you must be constantly developing your level of competence.
Ultimately, if you focus on applying the keys to success in business as outlined here and you work at breaking the success barrier in your life, you will achieve far more than the average business person. Do something today to move you towards the business success you desire.
