Although there are many ways to earn affiliate income on the Internet and many ways to market, promote and sell your affiliate products and services, the starting point is having your own Affiliate Marketing website.

And I do mean “your own” website – not an affiliate page or a free blog site. Those kinds of sites can be used as part of your marketing strategy, but when you have your own site you have full and complete control over what goes on it and what you do with it.

There are inexpensive resources, services and guides that can help you build your own website. You can also do the research yourself and learn how to do it all free. But the way technology and search engine optimization is changing so rapidly these days, that may not be the best way to do it. …

It would be to your greatest advantage to check out some of the resources available and consider availing yourself of some professional guidance.

What are some of the things to consider when planning to build your own Affiliate Marketing website? Here are a few things to think about:

Affiliate Marketing Website~ What website platform to use? Personally, I have found the WordPress platform to be very easy to work with. You can get free or paid templates in a variety of styles and there are plenty of plugins you can use to increase the versatility and appeal of your site.

~ Blog or Static Website? That depends on your marketing focus and your purpose for the site. Again, I like WordPress because you can use it for both styles of websites. You can create both pages and posts.

~ Images, Ads, Video, Social Media buttons? All of these have become important elements of an attractive website or blog these days. Plan your site to include these features.

~ Purpose and Focus of the site? In one clear, short sentence, what will your site be all about? Who is your targeted audience? What specific purpose will it serve for them? What value will it give them? Getting this focus clear in your mind will help you make more appropriate and effective design decisions.

~ Visitor Engagement? In addition to the social aspects of visitor engagement, how about an opt-in section to offer your visitors follow-up information and to collect their contact information?

~ Domain Name and Hosting Services: Choose a domain name for your website that, at a glance, effectively communicates what your site is all about. Something simple that will be recognizable and meaningful to the type of visitors you want to attract. Choose reputable website hosting services that you know you can depend on.

Those are a few of the things to think about when planning to build your own Affiliate Marketing website. Do the research yourself, or find some helpful resources to guide you. The key to success is effective planning.
